The latest numbers released by the UK gambling authority, the UKGC, shows that the National Lottery still remains the most popular form of gambling in the country. The report, entitled Gambling Participation in 2017: Behavior, Awareness and Attitudes headlined a number of interesting trends that were seen in the UK gambling industry last year.

Some of the statistics released were as follows:

  • 45% of people participated in some form of gambling in the past week.
  • 3.9% of people identified as low or moderate risk gamblers.
  • 31% of people participated in gambling in the past our weeks, excluding lottery.
  • 51% of online gamblers gambled using their mobile phones or tablets.
  • 18% of people gambled online in the past four weeks.
  • 26% of online gamblers bet in-play.
  • 1% of people played machines in bookmakers in the past four weeks.
  • 33% of people think that gambling is fair and can be trusted.
  • 0.8% of respondents identified as problem gamblers.

“Our new three year strategy sets out our role in developing a strong evidence base and improved understanding of the impact gambling has on society. Today’s report makes an important contribution to that work as it presents a comprehensive view on how the British public is choosing the gamble and their attitudes to the current market,” said the program director of the UKGC, Ben Haden.

“Our research shows the main factor that influences where someone gambles, is a company with a reputation for being fair and trustworthy. The message from that is clear – gambling companies that treat their customers well and act responsibly will be at an increasingly competitive advantage.”

New Online Gambling Bill Introduced in West Virginia

Wednesday, March 22, 2017 @ 02:03 PM posted by admin

A new bill that could see the introduction of a legal and regulated online gambling bill in West Virginia saw the light of day earlier this week. HB 3067, sponsored by Delegate Shawn Fluharty and four others, will place the regulation of internet gambling under the authority of the West Virginia Lottery Commission.

Directors of the lottery have been examining the idea for three years now, but this is the first time that a bill has been introduced.

What we know about HB 3067

  • A tax rate of 14% of gross gaming revenue.
  • Operators will pay a licensing fee of $50,000.
  • Only gaming facilities and race tracks currently licensed by the West Virginia authorities will be allowed to apply for operating licenses.
  • Operators will be responsible for ensuring that gamblers are at least 21 years of age, located within West Virginia’s borders and that fair gaming is taking place.
  • Players’ funds and operating funds will be kept in separate accounts.
  • Illegal online gambling operators could be punished by law, with operators facing anything from heavy fines to prison.

West Virginia now becomes the seventh state to enter into the process of attempting to legalize online gambling and join Delaware, New Jersey and Nevada as the only three states with regulated industries. Massachusetts, California, New York and Pennsylvania are among the states who have introduced bills this year.

Big Hits on MPN Fish Party Sit & Go Jackpots

Friday, March 17, 2017 @ 04:03 PM posted by admin

The Microgaming Poker Network reported on two significant jackpot wins by players on its Fish Party Sit & Go events. The first EUR 10 jackpot hit for an incredible EUR 207,438.90 – split between three players. Soon after that a EUR 5 jackpot hit at EUR 128,125.47, again split among three. Needless to say, there were many happy players on the MPN platform in recent weeks!

What makes Microgaming Poker Network’s Fish Party unique is that it is a fun but highly rewarding take on the general Sit & Go format found at popular online poker rooms. The Fish Party has a progressive jackpot feature and every time a Fish Party takes place, the jackpot feature increases. What determines the size of the jackpot is the spin of Microgaming’s Fish Party slot game.

Jackpots range anything from EUR 6,0000 to EUR 325,000, and could increase any minute.

Alex Scott, the head of product at Microgamings said: “MPN is the only poker network in the world which can claim that its Jackpot SNG prizes are truly unlimited.”

“This is the seventh and eighth time respectively that the Fish Party Jackpot has hit and players have hauled in a gigantic prize,” said a thrilled Scott. “I can’t wait to see who wins the next one, and how.”

The good news is that you can trigger another jackpot at MPN online poker rooms for just EUR 1.
